A pre-service teacher begins an online odyssey…

tammy

This is me!

I am a pre-service teacher, currently studying externally through Deakin. I have a varied professional background having spent time in the Australian Army, worked in the fitness industry and as an IT consultant/DBA before becoming a mother and deciding I wanted to be a teacher. I completed my first year (part time) at UTAS, but decided the Deakin course, which allows you to become a K-12 qualified teacher was a better option for me. I use this blog mainly for uni assignments – to put my reflections, teacher resources and other lesson plans or ideas out there on the web and show how I would prefer to incorporate ICT into my teaching.  This year (2010) I am studying at Deakin and also doing two units cross-institutionally at Charles Sturt Uni so that I can have IT as a specialty for teching up to year 12 – that would be lots of fun, but I still have a bit more study to do before I will actually get to have my own classroom.

I have a gorgeous five year old daughter, Brianna, who has helped, tested and inspired many of my K level teaching ideas over the last few years as I have studied. Brianna is already looking forward to ‘big school’ next year and is desperate to start prep (in QLD) as soon as she can.  I have recently (well 15mths months ago now, but it seems very recent!) had another baby, the lovely Scarlett. I am currently living in Brisbane, Australia, which is my ‘home town’ – nice to be back. I spend quite a bit of time riding my bike, out walking, swimming or at the gym because exercise keeps me sane and makes me a better mother and a happier person. If you would like to have a chat, please email me and I will get back to you as soon as I can in between babies, bigger kids, housework, uni assignments and  trying to take over the world (said ‘Pinky and the Brain’ style, of course)…..
